U.S. Army Birthday and Flag day, 14 JUN 2021

The American Revolution began on April 19th 1775 when British troops attacked American militiamen in Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts.

The Continental Congress rushed into action. After weeks of debate, and nearly two months later – on 14 June 1775 – resolved to create a Continental Army – which included “ten companies of expert riflemen.”

So, to my combat decorated U.S. Army brother: “Jack, Happy Birthday to you and your fellow soldiers.”

Two years into the American revolution – some in Congress realized the army they had created 24 months earlier, needed a flag!

Once again there was acrimonious debate. Finally, on 14 June 1777 – at the urging of John Adams – the Continental Congress resolvedthat the flag of the thirteen united states be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation officially designating June 14 as Flag Day. 33 years later – on August 3, 1949 – Congress finally acted to establish “national Flag Day.”

Today – on this double birthday—thank a soldier being willing to serve under old glory and thank the good Lord for blessing both.
